Work remotely: how to do it right!

One of the main advantages in today’s workplace is the ability for employees to work from home or any other place where they feel more productive and creative. The workstation in many offices isn’t stationary anymore.

Employers are supporting their employees with laptops instead of desktops, and offering flexible work hours if it helps do the work better.

Flexibility is an important perk for the modern workplace, but does this bonus lead to better results and more success? Dana Manciagli, contributing writer for The Business Journals has gathered 4 habits shared by Cali Yost, CEO of FSG/WLF, that will help you succeed in a flexible work environment.

First of all, keep your employer, team leader, and co-workers informed about the progress of your tasks and projects. Show them that you are reliable, honest and trustful despite the environment and place you’re working from. Receiving confirmation from them will also boost your confidence, which will in turn help you meet all of your deadlines.

Secondly, use the right technology to collaborate with your co-workers. Get access to the applications that your company is using. Use file sharing tools and project management software to keep everyone updated. Don’t forget that you can also communicate with your team face-to-face online. If your tasks depend on someone else’s help, just do a video conference.

Thirdly, inform your co-workers about your flexible plans. Let them know at what time you can be reached, where you’re located, etc. Avoid the situations where someone needs your help or specific information to do their job, but you’re unavailable (this could lead to some delays, or worse – failure to accomplish important projects).

Finally, work flexibility should be taught by the employers with some training or instructions on how to do it. You must know the best way to apply work flexibility in order to accomplish your tasks and meet your and your company’s goals.

Don’t be afraid to work remotely! Especially if your company supports the flexible work model. Just stick to a schedule, be reachable, and keep everyone updated about your work progress, and you will succeed.
